is there an arborist among us?

Is this a plane tree or a sycamore? I do my best to walk by it every day – for obvious reasons, just look at it! – and I wish I knew its name.

it’s probably a plane (Platanus Orientalis), the most common plane tree you can find in parks in Italy. but as I’m not an arborist, I can’t be absolutely sure….

Stunning! Who cares what it should be called!

I’m not an arborist, either, but I think they are related to the Sycamore.

Can’t say what the tree is, but do like the photo of your cat..

    Hi there!

It looks like a Plane, the Bark is to clear for a Sycomore. Generally it’s very hard to determine a tree specimen only by it’s shape. But if I should guess the specimen of this Tree I would say it’s a London plane (Platanus x hispanica). To determine the exact kind of the Tree, justhave a look at the leaves. The leaves of Platanus x hispanica are similar to Sycomore where leaves of Platanus orientalis are deeper cutted to the centre of the leave ( horse-chesnut or hemp like).
    Peace!
